OUR STORY

Allsports Coaches Coaching Academy CIC (ACCA) is a start-up company, primarily aimed at training military veterans to become coaches delivering sports, health, mental health, and wellbeing solutions to young people (primary and secondary schools) The company will be trading with supply chain partners including training providers.

ACCA is Primarily focused on working with Veterans and their Families, however our holistic programmes can be adapted for Key Workers, Retired Sports Professionals and others including NEET’s who are considering a career change.

The CIC was established as a direct result of an identified need to resolve current market failures which included gig economy wages and our concerns about the sustainable supply of coaches and the difficulties of working in challenging environments suffering budget constraints.

We are in a position whereby we can scale-up and deliver solutions across the entire UK.

TRAINING MILITARY VETERANS TO TRANSFER THEIR LIFE SKILLS & BECOME FULLY QUALIFIED COACHES WHO CAN DELIVER SPORT & MENTAL HEALTH SUPPORT/MENTORING TO CHILDREN IN SCHOOLS & COMMUNITIES.

WE ARE CHANGING LIVES BY PROVIDING GREAT COACHING AND OFFER:

Bespoke learning and support / mentoring packages.
Recognized Qualifications via Blended / Online learning.
Work Pathways to provide a fulfilling career in delivering sports coaching and mentoring to children.
Use The Power of Sport 2 Encourage Children to Talk 4 Their Health & Wellbeing.

Based in Telford, Shropshire we can offer our core training for Military Veterans based anywhere in the UK.

The story began in late 2019 when I was reviewing the future focus of the sports coaching business that had been set up in 2008 by my youngest son who had gone on to do a teacher training course.

Running the business for him I concluded that the biggest challenge to long term sustainability was the lack of quality coaches due in no small part to the fact that sports coaching is a gig economy sector.

A major reason for this is the fact that working in schools is limited not least because of budget problems. Expecting coaches to be available for 1- 3 hours work per day is simply not sustainable both from a health & wellbeing point of view as well as financially for the coach.

Whilst I had been involved in junior football clubs (the result of four sports mad boys) my greatest legacy was setting up the 21st Allstars Football Club in Darlington with other friends who all had a passion for football. Putting a robust business model together in the early ninety’s the club has not only survived since the original gang put it together but grown year on year and is now one of the stronger clubs in the Northeast of England. Sponsored at the start of our journey by The Cornmill Centre Darlington we were soon attracting support from many local businesses including Taylor Woodrow Construction, Greenham’s, Allinson Transport Darlington, and many others over the years.

It was widely recognised that sponsoring children’s sports was reaching out not just to the customers and employees of today but also the children being supported are the customers and employees of tomorrow. On the back of an effective team of coaches the club has produced several professional players over the years including James Morrison (recently retired) who enjoyed a stellar career with Middlesbrough / West Brom & Scotland and more recently Northern Ireland Goalkeeper Bailey Peacock Farrell who started his league career at Middlesbrough before moving onto Leeds United and more recently Burnley.

Relocating to Telford in the mid-nineties my involvement in running junior football clubs continued and again an effective team of coaches produced players including Elliot & Kyle Bennet who have both enjoyed stellar careers in professional football at Premier League & EFL levels.

I enjoyed a lengthy career in the construction sector doing a job I loved and working with some excellent people many of whom remain friends long after my early retirement. However, retirement did not last long before I found myself supporting my youngest son’s coaching business. We have been lucky enough to send a few youngsters on the journey to professional academies. We were chosen by Manchester City FC Academy to set up and run a Shropshire Development Centre which has resulted in children being selected for elite training and playing for the academy. These few examples of seeing how GREAT COACHING CHANGES LIVES have driven the passion behind developing The ACCA Story.

But it is also about health & wellbeing for all, raising standards of coaching, registration and CPD for coaches and ensuring that it becomes a career that is sustainable and does not operate in the gig economy.

By raising standards including qualifications in mentoring/mental health support and teaching assistant coaches will provide a valued service to society.

After research and speaking to others in the sector we concluded that change was needed. As a result, we looked at military veterans as an ideal cohort who could be trained to become coaches delivering sport to schools and communities. Not least the reasoning behind this is the fact that majority of veterans have an interest in sport and at the stage of life when they are looking at a new career after service have unparalleled life skills to transfer to the role. With this in my mind we concluded that the coaching role could focus on delivering sport and mental health support/ mentoring to children which could provide greater value and support to a school that making the coach more employable for a full day’s work. The view was that this would have a positive social impact on the health & wellbeing of:

Children.
Veterans who become qualified coaches.
Schools.

In addition, by offering holistic support to the veteran’s families this could have a positive outcome for all concerned.

As far as schools are concerned the aim would be to support staff and ensure that children benefited from great coaching changing lives. This would be achieved by the power of sport encouraging children to talk. In addition to recognised qualifications in sport and mental health support coaches will undertake a teaching assistant qualification.

Apart from the health and wellbeing, we would also be aiming to impact the academic results.

Late 2019/20 after extensive research, we decided to set up a CIC to focus on training veterans and supporting them into work pathways including ongoing mentoring and CPD programmes. Ready to launch and set up as a CIC not for profit organisation we applied for registration only to get the timing wrong with the pandemic and the first of many delays and diversions.

We had a delay in getting registered.
When we did get registered, we could not open a bank account because the banks were closed for new accounts.
We lost planned investors due to Covid as they focused on their own business needs.
We lost access to grants that had been identified to support the project.
We lost access to education providers who were no longer accepting students.
However, on the other side we have been able to put in place robust solutions that mean we can now provide blended training solutions with C 90% completed online. Another plus point is that we can offer the training to veterans anywhere in the UK and not just locally as originally planned.
Once registered we signed the Armed Forces Covenant.
We have developed a network of contacts who we can work with across the country and who share our commitment to the cause. This allows us to provide work experience opportunities during training.
We have gained support from organisations who provide us with guidance /mentoring and practical help.
We have developed a supportive and integrated supply chain that will be involved in various elements of the programme delivery.

So now we are at the stage where we are ready to deliver our programme to a wider audience in a more flexible approach.

We can scale at pace to help children regain their lives after the pandemic.
We can provide solutions to help with the growing mental health needs.
We can provide solutions for others affected by the pandemic such as blue light workers.
We can deliver across the UK.
We have developed metrics for measuring the impact of our programme for Coaches / Children, Schools & Communities, Funders, Supporters etc.

We have three identified phases to our plans: WHERE WE ARE AT:

Committed to the Armed Forces Covenant we are working with several agencies including Telford & Wrekin Council, Shropshire County Council, Shropshire Chamber of Commerce, The DWP, The Marches Growth Hub, University of Wolverhampton, Lloyd’s Bank Foundation, Landau, Vicky Ayton BiZed Projects CIC, AND Joe Lockley Bright Star Boxing Academy.
We have a robust online solution to our training solutions working with the likes of Sports Structures, UK Coaching, CIMPSA which enables us to offer solutions across the UK.
Our partnership with CIMSPA will be focused on the Government Initiative to raise standards via a programme “RETRAIN TO RETAIN” aimed at retaining at least 50,000 registered coaches.
We have a solution that can be offered to Blue Light Workers and others in the future.
We are looking to explore a long - term partnership with local and national organisations who share our social impact objectives and can help us with business support, guidance, and mentoring.

PHASE 1

Following pilot training projects working with our integrated supply chain we will be aiming to qualify minimum one hundred veterans per year to become coaches delivering sports and mental health support to children.

Veterans will be offered work experience during training via a strong National Inclusion & Wellbeing Hub that we have put together.

Once qualified we will support them into work pathways including self- employment options. We will continue to mentor them and provide access to CIMSPA /UK COACHING via a membership scheme that will form the basis of our CPD requirements.

PHASE 2

We have more than 12 years’ experience of # GREAT COACHING CHANGING LIVES and delivery to schools. colleges and communities. A working party involving the school’s community is currently developing a sustainable delivery model of sports coaching & mental health support /mentoring that adds value to children and schools’ academic delivery. Coaches will also have teaching assistant qualifications to help meet the demands of schools.

We will be delivering pilot projects.

We will measure the impact our solutions are delivering to schools and communities our unique package:

THE POWER OF SPORT 2 ENCOURAGE CHILDREN TO TALK 4 HEALTH & WELLBEING

PHASE 3

An ongoing sustainable cycle involving:

Training – Employment – Delivery.
Support, mentoring & CPD programmes for coaches.
Employment pathways.

# GREAT COACHING CHANGING LIVES

Scaling at pace to # HELP CHILDREN RECOVER THEIR CHILDHOOD and provide national UK coverage.

Provide training to become qualified coaches to others including emergency service workers / ex professional sports people.

Be sustainable long term, be a recognised leader and authority in what we do.

Continue to work with the University of Wolverhampton and others to explore new innovative solutions for delivery of coaching to children such as Virtual Reality etc.
